The Life Skills course is designed to increase student knowledge and skills necessary for everyday living. Students will take this course for one quarter each year while in Middle School to develop skills and abilities that they will continue to use while growing up. The course is organized into week-long units that cover an array of subjects that include, but are not limited to Social Emotional Learning (SEL), self exploration, leadership, career exploration, budgeting, taxes, stock market, household cleaning, cooking, and food sustainability.
Each year students can look forward to a hands-on cooking lab as well as a larger scale project to be completed by the end of the quarter. In 5th Grade Gardening and Composting is covered. During 6th Grade the students dive into personal budgeting. For 7th Grade the focus is community service. Finally, in 8th Grade career, resumes, and interview skills are covered.
