At Fairview, fifth through eighth grade students have a three period block of classes scheduled into their day called “Core.” This block includes Reading, Language Arts, and Social Studies, allowing students the unique chance to work, learn, and collaborate in cross-curricular opportunities.
In Language Arts and Reading, students develop their writing skills on a daily basis to further their experience with various writing styles, organization, and structure. Students also focus on reading comprehension skills through exploring an array of texts, including novels, short stories, and nonfiction. These skills are also incorporated into the Social Studies curriculum while students learn about a wide range of topics spanning the history of our world, including ancient civilization and United States history, as well our modern world’s geography and cultures. Our goal is to create opportunities for students to explore history and current events through research, inquiry, and projects.
